Why the Social Loom exists
It’s lonely being a mom.
Not always, and not for everyone—but often enough that we don’t talk about it.I felt it in the early days, rocking a crying baby in a new city far from family. I felt it again at school events and the playground—chatting, busy but still disconnected. And I feel it in a different way now, with a teenager who needs me less, and a house that’s much too quiet some days.That ache for connection is what inspired The Social Loom.The idea isn’t to host the perfect gathering—it’s to make showing up easier. Because real community doesn’t just happen. It’s woven slowly, through small, imperfect moments of togetherness.One of my most cherished groups started as a mah jong club. We’ve only played twice. But we’ve met regularly for the past year and a half. What really stuck wasn’t the game—it was the gathering. The consistency. The shared life stage. And now, those women—who began as strangers—are among my closest friends.The Social Loom exists to help others create that kind of space:
